About The L-Word This publication was founded by Ben Fritz and Brendan Nyhan in May 1997 in order to provide a forum for the diversity of liberal thought which exists at Swarthmore College. With the help of a growing staff (in particular, the unstoppable Owen F. Lipsett), we now hope to build it with them into a Swarthmore institution. In coming months, we plan to build our base of writers, expand this website and explore the possibility of a Tri-College liberal alliance (with Haverford and Bryn Mawr).
