History

Chaverim was founded in the spring of 1999 as a tri-co Jewish a cappella group. Laura Gumpert (HC '02) and Shira Kost-Grant (SC '02) formed the group with the goal of creating a new opportunity for students to explore and perform Jewish music. Over the next several years, the group grew and expanded its repertoire to include a wide range of Jewish music, ranging from traditional Hebrew to Israeli pop to Ladino. In the fall of 2007, the members of Chaverim decided to broaden the group's focus to include music from all over the world.
