| Every summer that I spend in Pompeii, I send out mass emails to people back home recalling the things that have gone on in the time that has passed. My first year of doing this produced unimpressive, embarassingly poorly written emails, and only three short ones at that. The subsequent two years were better, recounting more involved adventures in Southern Italy and better accounts of what work was being done in the trench as my position on the project advanced.
