Mission Statement

DESHI is an organization committed to the social, cultural, and intellectual exchange amongst people with a special interest in South Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka). The mission of DESHI is:

• To increase awareness of and educate the Swarthmore community about South Asian culture and heritage
• To create an environment in which students are encouraged to explore and experience South Asian culture
• To increase awareness among, educate, and mobilize students in order to address pertinent issues that face the entire South Asian community, the South Asian collegiate community in America and the Swarthmore South Asian community
• To encourage social interaction between those students interested in South Asian affairs
• To facilitate the adjustment process for incoming South Asian students at Swarthmore

DESHI is not necessarily just for South Asians; it is open to all that share an interest in any aspect of South Asia. Everyone is welcome.
